Split & Dubrovnik
The blue sea of Eastern Europe. The gray wall of King's Landing.
Unlike the stereotypical Eastern European countries, Croatia is peaceful, quiet, beautiful, and rich. Tourists from all countries who come here almost always have one thing in common: high prices. People joke that the Swiss are probably the only ones who find it cheap. This is partly due to the fact that Croatia has just joined the Eurozone and prices have not yet stabilized.
Away from the Old Town, Split has a large number of Soviet-style square buildings, but because they sit on the Mediterranean coast, they look less serious and instead look light and neat in the Mediterranean sun. Dubrovnik is a mountain town. If you book into a hostel on the mountainside, it takes hundreds of steps to go on foot once. I guess the inhabitants of this city are in good health.
Dubrovnik has become a big travel destination in recent years because it was the setting for Game of Thrones' King's Landing. However, the locals don't like the label. They are more interested in people learning about their true history and culture.
Split and Dubrovnik are both small towns where you can climb to the top of a hill and see the sea. The blue color of the Mediterranean is unique. It is difficult to recreate the color using equipment; it can only exist in your memory.
