Xiamen-Gulangyu Island
Since it was a business trip passing through, the real sightseeing time was probably only three or four hours; because of the pandemic Xiamen University was closed, so Gulangyu Island became the only choice. And on Gulangyu Island most of the time was spent lying on the rocks by the beach, feeling the sea breeze and watching the sunset, and also emailing clients. The photos here are still mostly documentary of people, because on the beach I put the camera down. Traveling far just to lie by the sea might seem baffling, but picture a kid from Guangdong rolling around in the snow and you'll probably understand how I felt.

The residential area of Gulangyu Island is narrow and clean. This wall-mounted street lamp is a microcosm of the whole island—the outer shell looks a bit old, but what's inside is quite modern. Like all famous tourist spots, commercialization and homogenization here are also severe, but Gulangyu Island still leaves a good impression thanks to a very comfortable kind of cleanliness.
The three elements of the petit-bourgeois life: cafés, plant-covered walls, and round hats—all seen everywhere on Gulangyu Island. See too many and you get tired of them.
